Sal Vega served as Flatonia ISD’s Superintendent 2009-12 until he decided to retire on May 31, 2012.


 


Sal was a member of Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Elementary Principal and Supervisor Association, National Association of Elementary School Administrators, National Association of School Superintendents, National Association of Bilingual Educators, Texas Association of Bilingual Educators and the National Council for Staff Development.


 


 


Sal’s career in education spans 38 years as a bilingual kindergarten-5th grade teacher, junior high P.E. teacher, high school football/basketball coach, junior high social studies/language arts teacher, junior high assistant principal, elementary and junior high principal, Migrant Coordinator, and Superintendent of Schools.


 


As Superintendent, the school district boasted the only Texas Education Agency’s Exemplary (highest rating) campus and the only Texas Education Agency’s Recognized school district in the county.  Additionally, the school district successfully passed a bond election that resulted in a much needed new gym and band hall.  


 


 


While principal of an inner city school, with a 99% Hispanic and 99% free and reduced lunch, the school reached a Texas Education Agency Recognized rating (high performing school).  This was the first time in the school’s history to attain such a rating.


 


Sal has received honors, including the Teacher of the Year Award, Principal of the Year nominee, PTA Life Member, Texas Successful School Awards, Texas Educator Excellence Grant recipient, and Texas Education Agency/NCLB Distinguished Title I School Award,
